Notify the current supervisor/manager of the action to be taken.
If employee is to be transferred, notify present and future supervisor.
Change security codes (building access, computer, other) if warranted.
Contact payroll if demotion/reduction in pay or transfer.
If the employee's department or location is being changed, be prepared for questions from other employees.
Prepare documentation - potential for workers' compensation, unemployment, wrongful termination, tort (libel, slander, defamation) claims.
Be sure that the change in status/location, etc., is not a promotion, cannot be viewed as a promotion or is not otherwise positive action.
Contact the subject employee and state that appropriate action has been taken and that for reasons of privacy and confidentiality, details will not be provided.
Encourage employees to contact you if they have questions, concerns, or encounter further harassment or retaliation of any kind.
